UKGC has unveiled a new service that makes it easier for people to anonymously report criminal and suspicious online activity. The service is called Tell Us Something in Confidence and focuses on multiple online gaming irregularities. They could include underage gambling, money laundering concerns, match-fixing, unlicensed gambling, and suspicious or criminal activity.
It will allow users a one-stop service to upload supporting info to their reports anonymously, handling everything in the strictest confidence. You can post documents or photographs, following up with a post or an e-mail. In addition, you can share contact information if you want to be contacted concerning the info they provide.
You can use this service to provide any info people believe refers to any criminal activity under the Gambling Act 2005. It also applies to any other information that will benefit the Commission from a regulatory point of view. The service’s essential purpose is to signpost suspicious and criminal activity, with the goal of preventing them.
Moreover, all the general complaints about the gambling business can be made through the website’s complaint page. The confidential telephone used to report any criminal or suspicious activity will continue functioning as usual. The entire process is quick and discrete, aiming to keep gambling legitimate, fair and responsible.
This service should not be used for complaints about operators. Conversely, they should be discussed with the operator, respecting the complaints process. You can find the details about the licensed operators using the public register. Furthermore, do not use the service to report non-gambling-related suspicions and crimes.
The Commission will be able to get a much clearer picture and react faster. The launch came not long after the announcement of Britain’s gambling market’s latest statistics. The period from April 2022 to March 2023 saw a small rise in land-based gambling.
In other news, a third of all contacts to various support services have experienced harm from online slot games. They occupied 37.9% of all contacts, with online sports betting victims being second with 15.6%. Finally, fixed-odds gaming machines at bookmaker shops were third with 12.6%.
